In 1976, Sal and Gail Glesser founded Syderco. They settled in Golden, Colorado, and focused on selling their first product: the Tri-Angle Sharpmaker™ which was mostly sold at festivals and trade shows around the U.S. 

After a few years in 1981, Spyderco was ready to introduce their first folding knife, the C01 Worker. This first-of-its-kind knife pioneered the design of having a round hole in blade for easy, one-handed opening, a clip on the handle for carry at the top of the pocket, and the option of a serrated edge for aggressive cutting performance.

The new and improved features on the C01 set the blueprint for the modern folding knife and transformed the entire industry. Since then, Spyderco has remained a pioneer of the knife industry and has become one of the leaders in the cutlery industry. In addition to a worldwide distribution network and manufacturing resources in the United States and several other countries, Spyderco’s innovation has helped them accumulate many awards, patents and trademarks.
